Circuit Number #1

Hi guys,

Well I've got about 2 months until I leave on the trip, so it's about time I got my act together. I had been training regularly leading up to Christmas, and since then I've gotten a bit lazy. Today I rode from Leicester through Groby to Markfield and then down to Newton Lindford. From there I cycled to Swithland past the resevoir to Rothely and then through Cropston and Thurcaston back home. The whole trip is about 22 miles/35km and I can usually finish it in just over an hour and a half.....not bad going. This is the circuit that I usually do. It's a nice loop and it doesn't take very long so I try to do this as often as possible and do longer rides on the weekend. Here's a few snapshots....enjoy!

The start....

Hi everyone and welcome to my blog.

This space will be a digital record of my charity cycle ride from London to Paris. The idea for this trip evolved out of the feeling of helplessness which I experienced this past summer when I lost my best friend to cancer.

Adam was only 25 when he was diagnosed with a rare form of incurable cancer which attacked his throat and lungs. For 8 years I watched my friend and his family battle the disease.  I felt incredibly isolated from Adam, not only because he was back home in Canada and I was here in England, but because I felt like there was nothing I could do to help him. No matter how many times I visited him or spoke to him on the phone and through email, I couldn't do anything to make him better.

Adam passed away this past July, which only deepened the feeling that I hadn't and couldn't do enough.  This March I am riding my bike from London to Paris to raise money for the World Cancer Research Fund.

I am hoping to use this space to record some of my training as well as the journey itself.

Thank you for visiting and for your support.
